Not only did 47 of the 58 students did the night snorkel while 11 students did a squid dissection with Lurinda, but most students got out of bed at 5:45 to start hiking to the shrine at 6:00. Our goal was to watch the sunset over LA on our last day in Toyon Bay. The ski was RED! sailors take warning for the incoming storm. Everyone packed up and we had 4 last classes before we got back on the boat to LA. The waves were smooth again. Ken was waiting for us in the bus and we were on our way back to Peterson. "Finding Nemo" and "Pirates of the Carribbean" were great themem videos to entertain us in the bus.
As soon as we arrived in Toyon Bay, the students were introduced to their instructors and the leaders went to leader meeting. Fortunately these meetings were short and it was soon time to put on our swim suits and get ready to snorkel. We learned how to put on our wet suits, learned about the fish we might see, and headed for our suits. Getting our wet suits on proved an adventure, although not as big an adventure as taking then off would be!
Peterson Middle School 7th and 8th graders just returned from a wonderful 3-day trip to Catalina Island. The group left Peterson on Feb. 19th at 10:00 p.m. Our bus driver, Ken, made our third trip with us. We watched Madagascar 2, a movie Mrs. Fohner was given on a trip to Dreamworks that she had made earlier in the week. Students did not sleep very well on the way down. But we got to LA at 4:00 in the morning and had to wait until 6:00 for the Denny's in Long Beach to be ready to serve us breakfast.
After a very filling breakfast, we drove to the Queen Mary dock where the Catalina Express boat Catalina King is berthed. The ocean was smooth! No traveler got sick! Two hours later we were in Toyon Bay,
